Designer Interview

What inspired you to become a jewellery designer?

My art teacher from high school studied at Glasgow School of Art and seen I had potential to have a career in jewellery, with doing multiple projects I always focused on jewellery. Creating a piece that somebody can wear as body adornment allowed the wearer to also interact with the piece. Within jewellery it allows the designer to play about with size and structure which I find fascinating you have full control over creating. Being able to go from designing-making-wearing and being able to be involved in all sections interested me.

What is your favourite piece of jewellery? (either made or purchased)

I am a massive fan of the ORRO shop in Glasgow - The work of Niessing and how they strong structures with large stones catches my eye. The simplicity of the designs and the way the stones are set will always fascinate me.

Which celebrity would you love to wear your jewellery and why?

I would hope that my jewellery is suited for all celebrities; I personally would love for Beyonce to wear one of my larger statement pieces. I think she is massively in the public eye, it would be great for my work to be recognized worldwide.

Out-with jewellery is there any other career that you would love to try?

I have been studying jewellery for the past 6 years, whether it would be making Monday to Friday or working in a jewellers at the weekends, and I cannot imagine me doing anything else. I would love to of studied architecture as I’m interested in strong structures and the mathematics behind how to create a building.

What can we expect to see from you in the future?

With so much interest in my work and galleries approaching, it gives a sense of achievement that what I am doing is being recognised in the world of jewellery. I want to continue exhibiting and showing my work, hopefully furthering into kinetic jewellery. I would love to open my own gallery and give makers like myself the same opportunity I have been given.
