How to Prepare for Your First Bespoke Jewellery Consultation

How to Prepare for Your First Bespoke Jewellery Consultation

The most common thing I hear from clients before our first chat is: "I'm not exactly sure what I want yet!"

Please don't worry — that is exactly what I'm here for. You don't need to be a jewellery expert or arrive with a detailed brief. You just need a starting point, and I'll take it from there.

To help you feel prepared, here's what I'd suggest thinking about before we speak.

Gather Your Inspiration

A Pinterest board, saved Instagram posts, a ring you've seen that's almost right but not quite — all of it is useful. Even a scribble on a napkin or a leaf from a favourite tree can tell me something about what you're drawn to. Don't edit yourself; bring everything and we'll find the thread together.

If you're not sure where to start, browsing our signature collections is a good way to get a feel for the design language we work in — the asymmetric flow of the Atlantis, the refined lines of the Maisie, the sculptural quality of the Selene.

Think About the Soul of the Piece

This is really about colour and personality. Do you have a gemstone that holds a special meaning, or a metal tone you've always been drawn to? These instincts are more useful than you might think.

On stones: are you drawn to the classic brilliance of diamonds, or something with more character — a teal sapphire, a pink sapphire, a salt-and-pepper diamond? On metal: does the warmth of 18ct yellow gold feel like you, or do you prefer the cool, crisp finish of platinum or white gold? And on style: organic and asymmetrical, or modern and refined?

There are no wrong answers — just useful ones.

Check Your Jewellery Box

Are we starting from scratch, or is there something sentimental you'd like to incorporate? Old gold, a family stone, a ring that belonged to someone you loved — these can all become part of something new. If you have anything like this, have it ready for our conversation.

Think About Your Timeline

Bespoke jewellery takes time — typically four to six weeks from the final design sign-off. If you have a date in mind (an anniversary, a proposal, a birthday), let me know early so we can plan around it. The process involves too many intricate steps to rush, and honestly, it shouldn't be rushed — this is a piece you'll wear for life.

Have a Sense of Your Budget

You don't need an exact figure, but a comfortable range helps me suggest the best combination of metals and gemstones from the outset. Diamonds and gemstones vary enormously in quality and price, so knowing roughly where you'd like to land means I can focus on what's right for you rather than what's simply available.

There's no right way to start, and there's no charge or obligation if you simply want a quote or to ask a question. Whether you arrive with a detailed vision or just a feeling, I'm here to help you shape it into something tangible and timeless.

I can't wait to hear your ideas.

Warmly, Nikki
